It is the work of Karl Emil Gebauer: customer of Samland or the history and topographic-statistical picture of the East Prussian countryside Samland . Published in 1844 in Königsberg.
After a detailed geographical description of the landscape and its features and the living conditions of rural people, follows on page 115, Sogn. >> Topographic survey <<. Darin werden in Listen alle Orte nach Kirchspielzugehörigkeit, mit Einwohner- und Feuerstellenzahl benannt. In einem weiteren Teil des Buches folgt eine Beschreibung der Historie jener Region von der Urzeit bis in die Neuzeit. Besonders interessant erscheint mir der Blickwinkel des Autors, eines Pfarrers in St.Lorentz, aus seiner Zeit zu Beginn des 19. Jh. auf die Geschichte der Region und die Lebensumstände. Die Ortslisten sind natürlich wunderbar zum Auffinden und Einordnen alter Ortsbezeichnungen, die es später manchmal gar nicht mehr gab (z.B. Kuntzen auf der Kurischen Nehrung, das im Verlauf der Zeit unter den Sanddünen verschwand).
I had this book years ago tracked down in the Berlin State Library and laboriously copied page by page, to look at home in it to , because a loan is not the old band was possible. Now you can quite easily search it online. Pointing out the online link I have to thank Klaus Binder, whose ancestors lived in Samland, such as a forester.
Maybe that's an interesting read for the holidays, if you want to warm up after a walk in the snow with a hot mulled wine again and travel back in time to the ancestors.
